Augsburg, April 2025 – The Bavarian Regional Railways (BRB) is introducing the digital tool “Inspect AR” from the Swiss software company Augment IT to sustainably modernize processes in operational and preventive maintenance. Inspect AR is now fully operational after successful testing, delivering significant benefits such as increased efficiency, enhanced quality, and greater transparency in daily operations.
Moving Away from Paper to Digital Efficiency
With Inspect AR, paper-based maintenance and inspection processes are now a thing of the past. The intuitive tool enables complete digital execution, documentation, and archiving of all relevant maintenance tasks directly through a smartphone or tablet app.
More Transparency and Security in Everyday Work
“Our team was immediately enthusiastic,” says Thomas Sulzberger, Head of the Augsburg Railway Maintenance Team. “The operation is very straightforward, and everyone quickly embraced the system. It provides a much better overview, avoids errors, and saves time.”
One practical example: Previously, when a scratch on a vehicle was detected, employees had to use a separate camera and fill out a paper report to document it. Today, recording and documentation are done in real-time via smartphone, including precise location tagging and immediate initiation of measures for findings.
Quick Implementation, Long-Term Benefits
After a trial period of just three months, the system has now been successfully rolled out at BRB. Digital archiving replaces the previous physical ten-year retention requirement, representing a significant step forward in sustainability and efficiency.
With the successful implementation of Inspect AR, the Bavarian Regional Railways demonstrates how forward-looking technologies can be strategically deployed to optimize operational processes and support employees. Beyond its current deployment, Transdev Germany also plans to roll out Inspect AR to additional subsidiaries within the group in 2025.

In 2025, Augment IT plans to further expand its software, focusing on AI-supported features such as automatic document digitization, autonomous error detection, and intelligent navigation based on AR.
